A circumnavigation of Wales in a sea kayak, I aim to start from Conwy with the kids from our club, (Llanrwst Canoe Club) joining me in Llandudno Bay, then paddle East to Chester, get onto the Shropshire Union canal, then the Llangollen canal, then the Montgomery canal, until I can then get on the Vrynwy river and then the Severn, out to the sea, then it will be a case of following the coast back to Conwy, where I hope the kids and the rest of the club will join me.
As an extra to the challenge I am hoping to go outside of as many islands as possible, with wind, tide & weather permitting!
The whole trip should take about 25 days, with me aiming to paddle approx. 40km a day.
So far I am going to be doing the trip solo, but I have some friends who are trying to get time off work to join me, if not for all of it, then for some of the “interesting” bits if they can.
I will be camping at campsites where possible, and “wild” camping where not.
I want to do some night paddles, just for fun! And hopefully see lots of seals, dolphins & porpoise.
I will also try to contact all the canoe clubs in Wales, to invite them to join me if they wish, when I am travelling through their patch.
Eventually I hope this page will have a Google Earth display with my “live” GPS track linked to it, so that everyone will be able to monitor my progress. I am in discussions with the Outdoor Partnership re talking to local schools etc about this trip and hopefully promoting outdoor education.
